  • Licence liability condition: Not applicable to conventional low voltage work, which sits outside the Tasmanian electrical licensing regime by express exclusion. Work on a high voltage electric or hybrid traction system is a different question: the extra low voltage carve-out does not clearly reach it, and electrical work in Tasmania is the one trade where regulation 9(1) blocks licence issue and renewal unless a current insurance policy is held with a term extending into the licence period. • Licence evidence required: Nothing for conventional low voltage automotive work. Where work does fall inside the electrical licensing regime, regulation 9(1) of the Occupational Licensing (Electrical Work) Regulations 2018 requires the Administrator to be satisfied at both issue and renewal that a current policy is held and that its term extends into or beyond the licence period — the strictest evidence gate in Tasmanian occupational licensing. • Licensing body: Automotive electrical work is not licensed in Tasmania, and the reason is a specific carve-out rather than silence — which also means the carve-out has edges. Regulation 4(3)(c) of the Occupational Licensing (Electrical Work) Regulations 2018 excludes from electrical work any extra low voltage work performed on the electrical supply system for a vehicle or vessel, defined as a system for supplying electricity for starting, propulsion or the operation of electrical accessories. Conventional twelve and twenty-four volt auto-electrical work is therefore expressly outside the electrical licensing regime. The exclusion is limited to extra low voltage, so it does not on its face cover high voltage electric and hybrid traction systems, and a system installed in the vehicle solely for activities unrelated to its use as transport is carved back in. What contracts commonly ask for

Principals and head contractors set their own insurance requirements, and those are frequently higher than a licence condition. The requirement that binds is the higher of the two, and both have to be read from the actual document.

What this cover costs

This site publishes no cost benchmark for this cover. A benchmark needs a real sample of documents, and none is published until the sample is large enough to compute a median honestly. A benchmark from a handful of policies is a guess with a decimal point.
