- Licence liability condition: No insurance condition on either licence directly. For residential painting work, the general building rule applies instead: home building compensation cover is required for each home building project over $20,000 including GST. The pesticide licensing regime carries no published insurance condition. NSW · effective 2015-03-01 NSW Environment Protection Authority · 2026-08-24
- Licence evidence required: Where home building compensation cover applies to painting work, it must be in place before any money — including a deposit — is requested or accepted and before work starts. For pesticide work, no insurance evidence is required by the licence. NSW · effective 2015-03-01 NSW Environment Protection Authority · 2026-08-24
- Licensing body: The term covers two completely different regulated activities and they have different regulators. SPRAY PAINTING as building trade work: NSW Fair Trading under the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW), where painting requires a contractor licence for residential work valued over $5,000. PESTICIDE SPRAYING: the NSW EPA under the Pesticides Act 1999 (NSW), where providing services that use pesticides other than fumigants to control weeds or pests affecting plants or soil requires a ground applicator licence. Establish which one applies before anything else. NSW · effective 2015-01-15 NSW Environment Protection Authority · 2026-08-24
What contracts commonly ask for
Principals and head contractors set their own insurance requirements, and those are frequently higher than a licence condition. The requirement that binds is the higher of the two, and both have to be read from the actual document.
What this cover costs
This site publishes no cost benchmark for this cover. A benchmark needs a real sample of documents, and none is published until the sample is large enough to compute a median honestly. A benchmark from a handful of policies is a guess with a decimal point.
